COPY OF REPORT RECEIVED FROM WORKS

Further to our letter of the 25th ult., and the three experimental cells referred to therein, we have completed our tests on the vibrator and find there is nothing to choose between these cells in respect of acid escaping through the vents. After further consideration and discussion we are all agreed that it is desirable to reduce the hold-down on the Dagenite lid {A. J. Lidsey} by 1/4" and extend the wood and ebonite separation to 1/4" above the tops of the plates and keep to existing standard in respect of the other components. We suggest altering the Dagenite lid {A. J. Lidsey} tools to reduce the hold-downs by 1/4", increasing the height of the wood separators by 1/4" and assembling with existing ebonite separators until the stock is exhausted, when the increased height can be used. We presume you will acquaint Rolls-Royce of our proposals and obtain their sanction as applying to the 40/50 and the 20 h.p.

We also suggest that the height of the bottom rests remain as at present and not increased as proposed for the new moulding, which will give us 1/8" extra for sealing.

The present method of assembling R.R. cells does not ensure equidistant projection of separators on ends of plates as we explained to you some time ago. We are therefore, devising a jig which will take the sections upside down and allow the fitting of the separators from the bottom with correct end projection.

With regard to the other points referred to in our letter of the 27th ult., the sections are now cast up to correct centres, which permit the lid {A. J. Lidsey} to register accurately with a parallel assembly of the plates and we are cutting wood separators to a wet width of 4-31/32".
