X8650 SECRET To RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} from EFC. c. BY/RD. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} A.{Mr Adams} C.II. EFC3/T15.10.24. SILENT STARTER GEAR. MAIN AND RELAY SWITCH UNIT. We have tested the first of these units in the condition in which it was handed to us (it being understood that this condition did not purport to be finally correct), and the following are our conclusions and suggestions for further improvement. So far as we can see at present it appears likely that the windings, i.e. wire sizes and Nos. of turns, will be satisfactory. It is, of course, understood that the present enamelled wire on the main switch component will be replaced by D.S.C. wire of the same gauge, viz. 24 S.W.G. Will BY/RD. now note that we have decided that the 24 S.W.G. shall replace the 26 S.W.G. originally instructed. It is further understood that in further instructions the core will be made naturally the same height to which the present one is packed, so that when the main switch contacts are just closing the clearance between the armature and the core is as small as in the present model. This will ensure that the maximum available tractive effort of the magnetic circuit is utilised as pressure on the switch contacts. The main spring on the main switch unit appears to be about right. The flexible connection to the auxiliary lever carrying the movable carbon contact is, however, much too rigid. Contd. | ||
