(3) The only awkward point about this standardisation of leakage rate is the necessity at present of doing it on chassis on test.

Will Mr. Ingham arrange to improve our testing as follows:-

(a) Make the modification of the special end plug, Cuno filter and storage tank to continuously feed clean oil to the instrument. This will make a tremendous improvement in the general condition of the shock absorbers.

(b) Make the modification to the test rig proposed by Mr. Fuller, i.e. reduce the rotation speed from 120 RPM to 60 RPM.

Increase the stroke from 6" stroke to -
8" stroke for the front.
12" stroke for the rear.

This will avoid the leaving of tight spots at the end which is worrying us at present.

(4) When these two jobs are done and working Mr. Fuller should arrange by further investigation to transfer our leakage test from chassis to the bench.

(5) Will Mr. Fuller also arrange to carry out an exactly similar test on rear instruments, and obtain figures from which similar instructions can be issued for standardising leakage.

(6) Will Mr. Humpston note that we must make it an absolute rule not to permit chassis to go on test without full shock absorber equipment, and not to permit any chassis to be fitted with shock absorbers which have not run at least 250 miles on the road or been freed up on the rig, and calibrated for leakage as described.

(7) As regards production, on a basis of 100 cars we should instruct:-
10 valves - A 12295
15 valves - "A"
25 valves - A 12294
25 valves - "B"
25 valves - A 12293

and subsequently order, as for adjusting washers, to maintain minimum stocks.

OY.
