To BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} from Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} c. to Sft.{Mr Swift} Mx.{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer} X7380 Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}2/LG14.6.29. 'SS{S. Smith}' ENGINE FEET. X7005 The object of the SS.{S. Smith} feet is to give the max. torsional rigidity to the frame while isolating high frequency engine vibrations with rubber. To accomplish this result it is essential that the max. compression should be obtained on the sheet rubber when the engine foot is erected. It is therefore essential that the distance piece D.{John DeLooze - Company Secretary} shewn in attached sketch should be of such a dimensions that the inner plate P. is not pulled into contact with it until the rubber has been compressed as far as possible. The real function of the distance piece is only to prevent the foot slackening off in the event of the rubber giving way locally. As the resilience of the sheet rubber varies slightly it is not possible to fix the length of the distance piece exactly. In our experience the length of D.{John DeLooze - Company Secretary} required will be about .400. We consider that it is of the utmost importance that the rubber should be fully compressed on these engine feet. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} | ||
