Re BENTLEY
-----

I enclose herewith memo. setting out particulars of the matters we discussed concerning the Bentley No.2 on Monday last, in which I have embodied my later discussion with Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}

I do not know whether you will want this sent to all the members of the Conference present, so I leave it to you to send it to any of the Officials at Derby you think necessary.

Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} was a bit disappointed about the speed, but I explained to him that in talking about 90 m.p.h. it is such a very wide term; circuit speed on the track is an entirely different thing to a straight-way run on one of the new byepass roads, and even on the byepass roads the speed varies to a considerable extent according to the direction of the wind, etc. I think generally he is satisfied upon this point.

The question of the wandering of the steering, which he was quite definite about, I have also dealt with in this memo. I informed Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} that I did not think the Works would have any difficulty in overcoming this particular matter.

The real difficult point to decide is whether this car is too quiet with the silencer fitted. It is, of course, a good deal more silent than No.1 car was when first submitted, as at that time No.1. was not fitted with an air silencer. As mentioned, however, this can be decided when we get No.2 back again.

C.

I enclose the copies of the various reports, which you will, of course, read as criticisms that I had asked each one to make.
