X.4423 - CONDENSERS FOR "GOSHAWK" IGNITION. Yours refs. M/G21.11.21, M9/G21.11.21 and M15/G21.11.21. We have now taken to pieces one of the U.S.A. Bosch condensers and we find the effective volume to be .65 cu.in. This is only the actual effective volume, corresponding to foils actually in opposition. The volume of the roll itself is 1.10 cu.ins. In the RoC. design of Goshawk condenser, the allowed volume of condenser corresponding to plates in actual opposition is as previously stated, .5 cu.in., and therefore we do not understand your remark that more room was allowed in this, than in the Bosch design. We are sending for your inspection a portion of the strip from the Bosch condenser, from which you will see that two foils and two di-electrics are wound together. We are also sending the Bosch box (the strip being inside). We think that all four strips are wound on from separate rolls at the same time, and that the natural stickiness of the impregnated paper is sufficient without the application of varnish. Some varnish or compound, however, is afterwards applied to the edges to seal the condenser. R.R. 385A (100) (I.S.H. 798. 10-12-20) C.2947 | ||
