Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} C.c. to BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} X3580 EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}/Thn3/H8.9.22. FR Re. Suggestion from Pt. Australia. Pt. has written to us with regard to slackness of bearings in the front hubs, and the following is an extract of his memo. which we shall be glad if you will give your consideration, and let us know what we can reply to Pt.:- "Whilst on this subject I would like to suggest that some thought be given to the advisability of fitting thrust races to front wheels, or even rear wheels, as in countries where the roads are invariably deeply rutted very considerable side stresses are set up in the road wheels particularly on a heavy car which, travelling fairly fast on a good portion of the road, suddenly encounters a rutty portion. Owing to the narrowness of the roads it is usual here that the ruts have to be run into, and cannot be avoided, and when a car encounters these at any speed a heavy swaying is apt to take place, inflicting very severe side strain in the manner above mentioned."
