To EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} from Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. to BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} c. to Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} c. to CWB. 7457 Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}2/LG26.3.26. STEERING 20 HP. and 40/50 HP. X.5430 X.8430 X.457. Referring to EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}11/H25.3.26. BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} has agreed that he will issue instructions so that the set up spring in the side steering tube shall be arranged so that there will be .125" travel before the set up adjustmenr takes place. In our opinion this alteration will undoubtedly make an improvement but we do not think in cases where customers have actually complained of low speed wobbles, it will be sufficient. As regards the friction device for the pivots. We never intended to convey that we should recommend at the moment wholesale manufacture of this device so that they could be sent round to Depots. We had in mind that there were two customers who were suffering from low speed wobbles which had to be satis-fied. The friction device provides an effective and simple method of dealing with them. At the same time we shall try and get the friction device standardised, but it will have to pass through the usual channels. As regards the 40/50 HP. steering. Our view is that it was agreed by DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} that we should make experimentally a stay to his suggestion. This we are doing, and if it is effective, it can then be for the Administration to agree whether this can be fitted to the particular car which is complained of. We shall report later on the effectiveness of the stay. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} | ||
