Rolls-Royce Ltd 5 Boulevard Gambetta (France) Nice 18th February 1924 Mr Hives Rolls-Royce Ltd Derby Dear Sir, I was unable to report last Saturday, having been extremely busy - On the 14th inst. we went to Le CanadelHenry Royce's French residence & about one mile before reaching Mr Royce's place Mr Northey skidded with the off side of the car in a ditch of soft mud to avoid some carts obstructing the already too narrow road - In trying to get out of the ditch the reverse Pinion got seized - after staying at Mr Royce's for two nights, during which time Mr Royce tried the car, I got instructions to come here at our Depot to do the necessary repairs, arriving Saturday evening. I worked with some help from here, all yesterday Sunday & to-day & the car will be ready some time tomorrow, having taken down gear box & freed the reverse pinion - at the same time I have taken up 1 notch on rear brakes, both foot & side. fitted the R.G.P. lever & the other lever on shaft connected with pedal shaft - also greased up, changed oil in engine. inspected all round, etc. - I have taken all the necessary precautions to keep the size & quietness of the car, particularly of the Engine, the bonnet of which I shall lift to-morrow night after working hours, for inspection & adjustment of tappets. etc - I understood from Mr Royce that the report of Mr. Northey on the car was accurate & as Mr Royce actually found for himself - | ||
