Controls.

These have functioned O.K., and are in good condition.

Inlet pipe to L.O.P. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} 51767.

This is in good condition.

Exhaust pipe & fittings to L.O.P. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} 51605. - locking device on exhaust pipe to Sch. 569.

Exhaust box & pipe are in good condition. We have had a C. & A.{Mr Adams} washer on Nos. 3 & 4 cylinder ports partly blown out, causing bad exhaust blows. We have fitted a new C. & A.{Mr Adams} washer. Examination of pipe does not show any reason for this.

Engine suspension.

Front & rear suspensions are O.K. Tie tube for starting handle & front suspension, situated between first & second cross members - the two bolts that attach tube to cross member had worked loose. These two bolts worked loose on our last test. We should recommend that some locking device should be used for these.

Carburetter & fittings to L.O.P. E.53300.

These are O.K. Carburetter has been dismantled, and was found to be free from any foreign matter. With low & high speed jets set to give max. speed & good slow running, there is a weakness on picking up. There are one or two pop backs into the carburetter before the engine gets away.

Fan bracket, fan & fan belt.

These are in good condition, & we have had no trouble whatsoever. Fan belt has been tightened up 1/2 turn of adjusting screw.

Slipper drive.

This is working satisfactorily, & appears to be O.K.

Magneto & drive to L.E.C. 2088.

This is quite satisfactory.

Dynamo.

Dynamo has ceased to function twice. The cause of the trouble is dirty brush holders which has caused the control brush to stick. There is a hole drilled on top of brush cover, which when engine is washed down is liable to let paraffin, etc. go through & so on onto the brush holders. We would recommend that this hole should be underneath, to lessen the danger of this trouble. We presume that this hole is for ventilating purposes.
