(Cont'd) Minute 1. -2- 22.9.33. "and in this connection a copy of Wor{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager}'s memo to C. "Worll/M.13.4.33. is attached. Information is "required as to when the introduction of the "steel shoes can be made for production and whether "they can be applied retrospectively; the matter "being considered an extremely urgent one in view "of the annoyance to customers and the cost to the "Company." Hy.{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} referred to the "Quarterly Complaints" as per "HdL/PRSL.7.33." and pointed out that the number of brake seizure complaints from customers and rectifications thought advisable by the Repair Dept. during the 6 months ended June 1933 were:- 25 H.P. P.II. Front ......... 15 61 Rear .......... 74 4 Total - 154 He also called attention to the remarks made by Hd.{Mr Hayward/Mr Huddy} against these items as under:- "Front. "Modification to 20/25 and Ph.II.front brake shafts "is now being carried out on all cars as they become "available as per Depot sheets Hd.{Mr Hayward/Mr Huddy}215 and Hd.{Mr Hayward/Mr Huddy}223. "Rear. "Modification to 20/25 Rear Brake Shaft bearing is "being carried out on all cars as they become avail-"able. Depot Sheets No.Hd.{Mr Hayward/Mr Huddy}220. New 20/25 cars have "improved lubrication scheme to outer bearings. "also increased clearance being given to footbrake "on synchromesh cars. See Depot Sheet No.Hd.{Mr Hayward/Mr Huddy}246." During a lengthy discussion Worll/M.13.4.33. mentioned by H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} in his remarks above on this subject was read by Hy.{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} and a copy of this memo is attached. For the purpose of this Minute it was agreed the follow-ing should be inserted:- Hm.{Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs} stated - Inefficient braking is due to the Servo not doing its job and he is of the opinion that it is when running under these conditions the major portion of the braking is on the rear wheels only causing excessive heating of the rear brake shoes and rendering the standard 1" lever movement insufficient. | ||
