AS To Wor{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager}, From Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} re Report on I.B.IV Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}10/H15.12.33 Copy to F.H.R.C.BY. after 10,000 miles' Test. DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}Hr.Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} There are a few points worthy of special mention referred to thereunder and I should be glad if you would consult with the officials concerned and let me know what action it is proposed to take to deal with these matters on production. FLYWHEEL AND CLUTCH. The paragraph under this heading seems to indicate considerable wear, i.e. it says that at a mileage of 5,900 the clutch pedal had to be adjusted to prevent its fouling the floor board, the pedal having come forward 1 1/4 inches. During the remainder of the test it came forward .0625". SERVO. Weakness as referred to under this heading which it says has been repeatedly reported. RADIATOR AND THERMOSTAT. and the point re inability to keep the shutters open at speeds of 80 m.p.h. and over. I have already written about this but do not remember seeing any reply. ENGINE SIDE TRAYS AND UNDERSHEETS. The criticism about the engine becoming splashed with mud during wet weather confirms the criticism to the same effect from London so I should be interested to know what it is proposed to do. BRAKES. In a report subsequently received it states that the brakes lost their efficiency during a period of heavy use, and when they cooled down again, the braking became normal. I understand that this embarrassing condition when fast touring is undertaken is exactly what occurred to the demonstration cars at the Ascot demonstration, and Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} then said quite definitely that this characteristic must not be expected and that there must have been something abnormal for it to develop. It is also reported that the brake cams became rusted up and adjustment could not be carried out | ||
