To By: x202 Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}14/KW.25.7.34. Axle Shaft Twisting on the Bentley. We have had several cases of axle shafts twisting on the Bentley. The one of which we have most particulars was noticed on the 16th April. The car had just run 20,000 miles, probably the shaft was twisted most of the time. The attached sketch shows the amount of twist. The car is at present running yet another 10,000 miles in France with these axle shafts. We have taken another 20% off the flywheel inertia on the latest clutch and think this will help us with this problem. At the moment we have never had a case of an axle shaft failing.
