REC. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} BY.12/G.{Mr Griffiths - Chief Accountant / Mr Gnapp} 23.1.35. RE: BENTLEY FRONT APRON AND DUMB IRON COVERS. In view of the discussion which took place during the last but one Conference on chassis in regard to the appearance of the front of the Bentley car, when it was agreed the scheme should be put in hand immediately it was available, from a discussion which E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} has had with Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} embodied in E.1/HP. 22.1.35. (our copy of which we attach for Mr. Coverley's perusal and return), it is evident that it cannot go ahead on the basis we originally surmised, the position being that we have got to modify 5-B-1V. as quickly as possible to incorporate the design shown on LeC.4313, details of which have been issued under cover of BY/HEB.{H. Biraben}21/M.{Mr Moon / Mr Moore} 22.1.35. It is suggested that the modification to the wings should be made by Sanderson & Holmes, but as the hold up re-acts upon the chassis production it means that for the moment we have got to go ahead either with chassis without front aprons on at all or take a risk (which we are doing) and let the Works carry on on the basis of feeling fairly certain that the chassis would be acceptable when viewed.
