1026 Experimental Dept. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Std.4/MH.{M. Huckerby} 20th. May 1938. Messrs. Hallam, Sleigh & Cheston Ltd., Widney Works, Bagot Street, BIRMINGHAM, 4. For the attention of Mr.Booth. Dear Sirs, We send you herewith the following blue prints :- EB.3849 Top plate. PD.181 (scheme) EB.3850 Top plate. PD.182 EB.3851 Hinge. EB.3863 Stiffener. which are details for a bonnet with top panels opening separate from the side panels as per Rover and various other bonnets. We would likeyou to make two sets of plates and hinges complete and fit the hinges and stiffeners to them as per scheme PD.181/2. We would be very glad if you could let us have one set of these with a minimum of delay, but are particularly anxious that the finish of the plates, freedom from ripples, dents, etc. shall be as a production job. We think it would be best for this purpose if you sent the plates in cellulosed black so that any defects are shown up. In connection with this question of finish we now have the two plates, to which you recently fitted a hinge for us and which were rolled to shape here, fitted up on a car. We are definitely not satisfied with them - irregularities are noticeable both in the plates generally (our responsibility) and at the edge turnovers (which were done by you) - also as previously mentioned, either when at your works or in transport the plates have been somewhat distorted at the front ends. Perhaps if Mr.Booth is anywhere in the neighbourhood of Derby within the next week or so he will call and have a look at the finished job. If so, will you please make an appointment with the writer beforehand. | ||
