32-EX. PHANTOM III.

"Notek" Foglamp & Lucas Headlamps.

The foglamp was written off by an owl last night. We have not encountered any real fog, but in the light summer mists met with at night and in the early morning, it showed up to advantage.

It was very useful when used in conjunction with the headlamps as the sides of the road were then as well lit as the distance ahead and a wonderful light equally good for straight road and corners was obtained. It will be missed in this respect, as with the headlamps alone the exceptional brilliance of the long distance beam makes the sides of the road seem poorly lit in comparison.

This trouble can be overcome equally well by having both the dipped and long distance filaments of the headlamps on together, turning off the long distance one for dimming purposes instead of changing from one to the other, but we have not been able to get this method accepted as the bulbs are not intended to be used in this way. It was however done on the Marchal lamps used on the last Bentleys and on 35-EX. and no trouble was experienced.
