re CHASSIS NO. B.152-AH.
Prince of Siam.
------------------

We send you herewith an axle tube removed from the above car owing to a fracture having developed round the flange where it is bolted to the axle box.

We are rather concerned about this fracture as it is the second one which has occurred.

The first one occurred on chassis No. B.179-AE, and we sent the fractured tube to you under our Hd{Mr Hayward/Mr Huddy}/SB{Mr Bull/Mr Bannister}15/HR.11.4.35. In your reply BY/EM24/J.7.6.35., you stated that you were looking into the question as to whether a larger radius could be introduced between the flange and the axle tube body.

With regard to B.152-AH, the car has run approximately 25,000 miles.

This matter seems to us to be rather serious and we would like to know whether you are satisfied that we are not likely to experience further failures on cars in service, or whether you think that any action is called for.
