To NM. from R.{Sir Henry Royce} Copy to CJ. " " EH. " " SRN. 4th February, 1919. R12/G4219. RE VACUUM FEED FOR GASOLINE. x3603 Thank you for your memo(NA{Mr Nadin}1/G16119) re vacuum feed for gasoline. We have tried this in the past, but had the impression that we should only get sufficient vacuum to work the tank when we closed the throttle, and that the apparatus depended upon the throttle being more or less closed occasionally. This may have been a mistake, as it is possible we may have sufficient head from the usual vacuum in the induction pipe, even with the throttle wide open. This we intend to test, and if we find it effective, we shall adopt a vacuum feed, if not, we have schemed the use of a small vacuum pump instead of the pressure air pump in conjunction with the vacuum system. This latter idea is possibly an invention, and that it would be wise to patent it in the interests of the company. It was an idea of mine to meet the possible defects of the vacuum feed system when coupled to the induction pipe only. R.{Sir Henry Royce} | ||
