X1282 Exptl. Dept. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}5/KW. 30th May, 1934. F.R. Banks, Esq., Ethyl Export Corporation, Abford House, Wilton Road, LONDON, S.W.1. Dear Banks, Thank you for your letter of the 26th May, from which I note that our supply of Ethyl is up to expectations. The two points I would like some information on from America are - (1) Major Hallett's dope on the measurement of valve gear movement. (2) Dope on the construction of their exhaust heated butterfly valves and bearings, which they apparently put light-heartedly into their exhaust pipes. When we weren't using Ethyl we were in continual trouble with these squeaking, so it will be interesting to know how they manage to get away with it. Yours sincerely, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED. | ||
