ON BEHALF OF TECHNICAL INSPECTION DEPT FOR CHIEF INSPECTOR OF ENGINES (Mirrored text) Extra electrical fittings on cars. X. 8780. X. 2515. X. 4629. As you are aware, a considerable number of auxiliary electrical fittings are added to our normal electrical circuits on many cars. These are almost invariably put on to the interior lighting circuit. In a recent car, in addition to the interior lights, special rear stop light and direction indicator, two spot lights, there were fitted three Smith's Portable Cigarette Lighters, which consume roughly 12 amps. apiece, so that I assume if two of them were being heated up together the cutout would be fused. What is the actual current at which our wire fuses ? Do you think such a collection on one circuit is reasonable ? Is it safe, in special cases, to increase the fusing current ?
