X.3409.-EXPERIMENTS ON OILY FERODO BRAKE & CLUTCH LININGS.

In connection with the design of epicyclic change speed mechanism, Mr. Royce would like you to supply some data from Derby regarding the behaviour of Ferodo brakes and clutches under various conditions of oiliness, and to what extent the life of these brakes and clutches is affected by the oil.

Data is required of the flexibility and smoothness with which the brake takes up the drive when just oily, or under extreme conditions when oil is being squirted on to the friction surface. In no case is it required for the brake or clutch to run in oil absolutely, but it can dry itself by drainage or by rotation.

E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer}
