C O P Y. To Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} from Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} c. to Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}8/E.6.3.36. Re Bentley Clutch. In the third paragraph of Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}5/KW.5.3.36, you say that you are sorry that we are committed to the Borg & Beck clutches and that fortunately we can revert to the R.R. clutch on the Bentley almost immediately. [Handwritten note: in x2924 (conf. file)] I thought the position was that the reason for going over to the Borg & Beck clutch on the Bentley was because we were having a good deal of trouble with the R.R. clutch and there was nothing available to get us over the trouble. Am I not correct in saying that the testing of the car with the clutch we have put into production was carried out with the Borg & Beck clutch ? If my assumption is wrong, please let me know the correct facts but, if I am right, then I should like to know what R.R. clutch it is that you say we could revert to on the Bentley almost immediately, and what testing has it been submitted to on a 4¼ litre Bentley car.
