12th January, 1939.

N.H. Manning, Esq.,
Briggs Motor Bodies Limited,
DAGENHAM,
Essex.

Dear Manning,

Thank you for your letter of the 11th January.

I am sorry that you were not kept in touch with our negotiations with regard to the placing of our frame contract, because originally your first quotation was lower than anything we had previously received, and, consequently, was very helpful.

The control of our 'Bought Out' fabricated parts, such as frames, is now in the hands of a Technical Cost Engineer, who is responsible for placing tool orders under the most advantageous conditions. I have showed him your letter, and he points out that your price was so far from the final price that he did not consider it worth while bothering you further. However, I am sorry that you were not told before we were finally committed that you were unlikely to get the order.

Since the tool cost incurred is not very high, we are not committed to our present suppliers indefinitely, and I have asked Leslie to contact you so that in the event of your being able to demonstrate that over an extended period of time you could save us money, we could review the situation at the appropriate moment.

Yours sincerely,
