NO. 3 11th January 1939. W. A.{Mr Adams} Robotham Esq., Messrs. Rolls-Royce Ltd., DERBY. Dear Robotham, It was naturally disappointing to learn from your letter of the 10th that we had been unsuccessful in securing your frame business. As you probably know, we had several discussions with the various members of your organisation in lining up this job for production, and prepared several series of figures. We had hoped therefore, that when it came to the point of placing the business you would at least have given us an opportunity of working with you, as is the practice with our other customers. In general we figure that our tool costs will be high, and all things being equal our piece prices should be the same or slightly lower than on frames made by existing methods in this country. The factors of interchangeability and uniformity have, in the experience of chassis frame users, more than compensated for the difference in the cost of chassis assembly, which has been confirmed by the additions of business which we have received during the past year. Again I say that the result of our negotiations to work with you on your frame requirements has been extremely disappointing, and it is of personal regret to the writer that the matter should have been settled without our receiving any indication of its progress. Yours very truly, NH Manning | ||
