PRIVATE. x306 GRY{Shadwell Grylls} AFM{Anthony F. Martindale} Sft{Mr Swift}/WN.1/IP.31.1.36. PHANTOM III COST REDUCTIONS. HAND BRAKE EQUALISER SEC.6090. N.Scheme 4558. In reply to your memo E.6/HP.29.1.36 regarding our suggestion WES.174, we note that some of the details of the scheme are not acceptable. We realised the undesirable features of these details, but our object was to eliminate both the needle bearings and the acme thread without disturbing the proportions of the existing parts. We should, however, prefer to have the needle bearings deleted as these are the cause of the greater part of the expense of manufacturing. The acme thread in the Fulcrum Pin was troublesome in so far that the tapping of the thread had to be done before hardening of the roller faces, resulting in distortion and eccentricity later. This trouble would be removed if the stem end of the Fulcrum Pin and the Inner Bearing were left soft as no doubt can be done if an Oilite Bushing is adopted. Sft.{Mr Swift} | ||
