Rear Brake Operation (Foot and Hand)

Phantom III

Further to Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}1/HP.28.1.36, we now send N.Sch. 4750 which shows the push rod retaining spring rings when buried an extra .0125 as instructed by E.2/HP.28.1.36.

The upper view shows the layout for the foot brake with the latest bearing arrangement for the bell crank lever fulcrum. In this case we show a stop face provided in the carrier plate which will prevent damage to the linkage should this be brought to the end of the designed travel. Normally the pedal travel is insufficient to move the levers through the angles shown but should the rear brakes be unequally adjusted it would be possible for these angles to be exceeded.

The lower view shews the existing bearing. The stop on the lever eye boss must be removed to give clearance for the ring when the levers are in the extreme 'on' position.

The clearances as shown are small but the tolerances on the pieces are all in the direction of increasing the clearances.
