Clutch - Bentley 4 1/4 Litre & 25/30 HP.

Further to Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Smth.18/KW.13.7.36.

As described in the above memo, the clutch is often said to be jaggering when the take-up is accompanied by violent transmission rattles, but otherwise feels to be smooth. In such cases the fitting of a propellor shaft damper will probably cure the trouble.

The damper to be fitted is the standard 20/25 and 3 1/2 Litre Bentley one, which was discarded when we changed over to the Borg & Beck clutch.

The damper can be fitted directly to the 25/30 chassis as the flange at the front end of the propellor shaft has been machined to take it.

In the case of the 4 1/4 Litre Bentley, the flange is not suitable, and either a 25/30 sliding piece or a complete 3 1/2 Litre Bentley propellor shaft has to be fitted. The 4 1/4 Litre Bentley and 25/30 sliding pieces are identical except for the flange.
