RE STANDARD OF BODY PARTS CONCERNED WITH THE CHASSIS.

We suggest that experiments on body parts in which RR. are concerned either through manufacture or recommendation should be standardised in a similar way to chassis experiments, before they are either put into production or issued to the coachbuilder. We have in mind such things as scuttle and dash separation, spare wheel carrier, luggage grid, instrument board, recommendations for ironing pillars, wiring of body lighting, and so forth.

We suggest that a modified standardisation sheet from that used for chassis work would be required and attached to it would be not only a report of the experiment carried out, by our Exp. Dept., but also a report of an experiment with the particular part in question by a leading coachbuilder on one of their, or our, trials cars. This would overcome the difficulty which sometimes arises, an example of which was the 20 HP. luggage carrier, which, although approved experimentally at Derby, was disliked by the coachbuilders when they tried it on a customer's car some months after we had started producing.

We are aware that there may be many objections and imperfections in this suggestion, and would therefore be very glad if you would kindly let us have your comments.
