BY/NS.{Norman Scott} c. Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} HPS.{Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr} A.R.M 1305 DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}8/G.11.8.38. BENTLEY 111 and 50 and WRAITH 80. REAR SPRINGS. 22.7.38. We have investigated the remarks on HPS.{Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr}5/VS.{J. Vickers} and agree it does look as if the knurling on the rear spring bushes does not cut into the spring/eyes to the depth expected. Would BY/NS.{Norman Scott} therefore arrange for the knurled serrations to be removed from the front and rear spring bushes on Bentley 111 with 50.000 centre springs and Bentley 50 and Wraith 80 with 56.000 centre springs. The bushes should be pressed into position with an interference of .010 to .015 similar to Wraith 111. It is important that the set screw for the oil holes in spring ends should have a definite location in the bushes as shewn on F.CD.685. If the bushes are found to creep round or move endways, a chamfer could be added to the ends of the spring eyes both sides, and the bushes peened over in position, the ends of the bushes would have to be left soft for this purpose. Please alter the details necessary, and instruct the Experimental Dept. DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} | ||
