AUTO CHARGE CONTROL SWITCH.

Reference your R3/M2.12.27; we would prefer to look upon the above unit as being too experimental at the moment to put on a 10,000 mile chassis until it has done some running on one or more experimental cars, and particularly as we have already in one case (12-EX) a 10,000 mile item, viz. EG2 Morganite brushes on the new N.B. type of dynamo for standardisation as second string brushes, these having done very well experimentally. The dynamo is being run with a slightly increased output above normal for this purpose. Also a battery with threaded rubber separaters which also appear to do well experimentally and for which we want the extra charging as a test on the battery.

As regards getting one of these auto switches on your EAC.7 car, we will endeavour to do this. At the moment we have not tried the unit out on a 40/50 machine, and there is therefore some bench experimental work to be done first.

The three units are being assembled by the Shops and we are urging the receipt of these. We have only the one so far in our laboratory on which the tests have been made.

With regard to the patent, this is being carefully looked into. Although we have a number of differences from the Midgley scheme and have no difficulty in specifying these, it is rather difficult to put up a clear case for advantages over that scheme, though I suppose all that is necessary from the patent point of view is
