Dear Mr. Robotham,

Re the pumps which I brought back yesterday. I have tested these myself this morning with the following results:-

RB.{R. Bowen}759/GM1. Date of manufacture 1/5/36.
I could find nothing whatever the matter with this instrument. It pumps at the rate of 31 gallons per hour, but I will leave it on test for 48 hours to await developments.

RB.{R. Bowen}1368/GM1. Date of manufacture 17.7.36.
Leaky diaphragm.

RB.{R. Bowen}1356/GM1. Date of manufacture 14.7.36.
This pump would not prime at all. On examination I found that two valves were in one side and none in the other. On putting the valves in their proper place, the pump is apparently O.K. I do not think we can be blamed for this.

RB.{R. Bowen}1007/GM1. Date of manufacture 8.6.36.
Would not prime on left hand side. On removing the valves and refitting, primed O.K. but the left hand side had a warped valve in it, leaking back more than normal.
It is possible in this case that the spring holding the valve in the cage was fitted incorrectly. It is possible under these conditions for a valve to catch up in the
