WYMAN Surprising. Did you know this when you recommended Jubilee clips! RHO. C. No. By Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} E/Lid.{A. J. Lidsey}4/HP.6.1.37. Pm 25/30 HP. and Bentley Expansion Boxes. Referring to RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer}5/LS.30.12.36 and Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}6/R.5.1.37, we have investigated the suggestion made because we always considered Jubilee clips to be more expensive than the simple type of lagging strap secured in position by a bolt i.e. similar to E.60857. What we find is that E.60857 (now standard on Phantom III, Bentley, and 25/30 HP. Chassis) is exactly similar to EB.643 as previously used on the Bentley except that the opening in the strap is in a different position. This however should make no difference to the cost of producing the piece. EB.643 which was produced in these Works from strip staybrite cost 1.254 shillings in material and .164 shillings in labour or a factory cost of 1.705 shillings per set of three; the new strap E.60857 however is bought out complete and costs us 3.450 shillings per set of three, or 1.745 shillings per chassis more than EB.643. It appears, therefore, that a greater saving will be achieved by producing E.60857 in our works than by replacing this piece by a Jubilee clip. A further saving might be achieved by making these pieces in mild steel either cadmium plated or nickel deposited - this we recommend should be tried experimentally and adopted as soon as possible. Material. Labour. Factory Cost. EB.643 originally used and produced in Works fromstrip Staybrite. 1.254 .164 1.705 E.60857 bought out complete. 3.450 Jubilee Clips. 2.91. E/Lid.{A. J. Lidsey} Jub.
