Connecting Rods - continued.

score marks are apparent on Nos. 3, 4 and 6 - see attached photographs and chart.

The little-end bushes are satisfactory and show no signs of wear; Nos. 3 and 4, however, have worked loose in the rods.

All rods passed the magnetic test for cracks.

Pistons.

Tin plated "Aerolite" pistons with raised crowns, supplied by Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/CTS.{C. Trot Salt - Carburation}, were fitted.

All pistons with one exception are in good condition. No.2 piston shows a slight crack approximately .200 in length at the bottom of the skirt. The ring and groove wear is normal.

Slight scoring is evident on the bearing surface of all pistons.

A seizure of No.6 piston occurred in France; this was replaced by a standard "Aerolite" piston with flat crown - see photographs and charts attached.

Cylinders.

Complete to LOP.EB.3654 and including Ex.29685 Cylinder Head which incorporates the push rod tubes E.CD.775.

Cylinder Block.

All cylinders are slightly scored, Nos. 6 and 3 being particularly noticeable in this respect. With this exception the block is satisfactory - see wear chart attached.

Cylinder Head.

The general condition of the head is good except for Nos. 2, 3, 10 and 11 valve seats which are cracked. A photograph of Nos. 2 and 3 is attached.

From the appearance of the inlet seatings the valves have failed to make a seal over the full seat area. In the majority of cases the leakage has occurred adjacent to the exhaust valve.
