Cylinder Head.- continued.

The copper push rod tubes in the head are satisfactory.

Valves and Fittings.

Complete to LOP.EW.1427 incorporating push rods in .4% carbon steel.

Inlet Valves Nos. 1, 4 and 5 to Ex.29686 in S.65 material.
" " Nos. 8, 9 and 12 to EW.1852 produced by Motor Components.
Exhaust Valves to Ex.29687 in Stellited KE.965.
Valve Springs to EB.3256.

The inlet and exhaust valve stems are in good condition and free from scoring.

As previously mentioned, the inlet valves have not made a perfect seal, and exhaust valves Nos. 2 and 3 are slightly burned on the seatings due to cracked valve seats - see attached photograph.

All valves have been tested and found free from cracks.

The rockers and rocker shaft are satisfactory, the former being bushed with Vandervell bearings which are also in good condition and free from wear. No measurable wear has taken place on either the push rod ball end or rocker pad.

Additional oil holes were drilled on the lower side of the rocker shaft from Nos. 1 to 6 rockers, but this section of the shaft shows no improvement over the remainder.

All rockers have been magnetically tested and found free from cracks.

The valve springs have been tested for load and appear to have collapsed slightly; the specified load for the springs is 45+2 lbs. when compressed to 1.525", but after test the spring pressure varied between 40 and 40.25 lbs. when compressed to this figure.

The cast iron tappets chilled on the working face are very satisfactory. It should be noted that the Brinell is slightly in excess of the drawing figure of 520-550 and lies between 580 and 625.
