Re: 40.JS{Mr Johnson's Secretary} - Mrs CORRIGAN

We have tested this car again after BINDER had finished the work on the body and the silencer had been completely lagged.

Whilst there is a decided improvement, I doubt very much whether it is sufficiently improved to be approved by Mrs. Corrigan.

This week-end we intend to check over the slipper-drive and test the car with the rear engine bolts removed. Our next move will be to get Mrs. Corrigan to try it, probably on Monday. In case she is not satisfied with the car, we shall endeavour to persuade her to use it in Italy and wait until she takes the car to England to have the diamond mounting fitted. If she refuses to accept this proposition, we have to decide whether the diamond mounting is to be fitted in Paris or the car returned to England. I think we should be able to fit this mounting here and save the expense of the car being sent over, but I think if this is agreed upon, it would be advisable to send a mechanic who knows about this particular work to Sèvres, to help with this job.

If you agree to this latter suggestion, I think it would be advisable, the first thing on Monday, to instruct the Works to prepare the parts and have a man in readiness to bring them over to Paris on receipt of a telegram from us.

Personally, I should like to try the effect of lowering the compression.

At the present moment, I have sent the car back to BINDERS to let them try it and to make sure that they have done all they possibly can to reduce the booming inside the body.
