Derby, England.

Attention: Mr. F.{Mr Friese} Griffiths,
Chief Accountant

Gentlemen:

Reference - G/WFH/LH.{Mr Haworth}13/PS.

We have your letter of November 3rd with further reference to one pair of hypoid gears originally furnished on your order #59279 and returned to us as being unsatisfactory.

We consider the failure of this pair of gears was not caused by any defect in workmanship or material but was a result of overload in test runs coupled with overspeed in low gear test runs.

Your representatives, Messrs F.L. Smith and Whitehead visited our plant on October 14th and discussed in detail this pair of gears together with hypoid gear installations in general. It was agreed with Mr. Smith that we would await further word from him after he had returned to England and had an opportunity to go over this problem with your organization.

We trust you will therefore cancel your Pro-Forma invoice #E-16989.

Very truly yours,

GLEASON WORKS.

(Signed) F.L. Knowles.
