(c) is under consideration and a modified form of the Trier & Martin control, more directly applicable to our present machine, has been thought out and will be experimented upon. A successful solution of this problem will reduce or eliminate complaint (3), whilst having little effect on (1) and (2). But if the cir-cumstances are mixed (c) may help (i) appreciably.

A combination of (a) and (b) would satisfactorily meet (2) and (3), but probably aggravate (1), depending on the extent to which the circumstances are mixed.

A combination of (a), utilising preferably the auto charge control switch, with a successful solution of (c), should go a long way towards eliminating all three types of complaint, unless the circumstances are wholly (1).

We are of the opinion that it would be a great gain to be able to provide a system that woubd relieve the customer of anxiety under any one of the heads (1), (2) and (3) above, without the necessity of having independent charging, except in the case of extreme circumstances in which the demand on the system could reasonably be considered unreasonable, and we are carefully considering the matter with this end in view.

In accordance with your request we are arranging on the next 10,000 mile chassis 12-EX a system consisting of -

(1) Otherwise standard dynamo, but set to slightly higher output than normal.

(2) Special switchbox with M & B in the first position, so that charge can be switched off at switchbox without switching off magneto. This switchbox has also been definitely arranged so that when the charge is switched off, the field circuit is broken definitely first, max This has been explained to be desirable because the spark, in breaking the armature first, has more power to burn the contacts than the inductive spark of the field break. Sufficient delay between one and the other in normal oper-ation of the switch is obtainable apparently without the
