Further to memo Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Swdl.{Len H. Swindell}4/MH.{M. Huckerby}15.6.39. NO.30 TEST HOUSE. B.80 No.1. Following analysis of power curves carried out on this unit after removal from 30.G.VII we wish to make a complete camshaft investigation on this unit of three camshafts available. (a) Long duration at present fitted EB.4105. (b) Short " EB.4512. (c) Short duration with spread cams to give reduced overlap Ex. Test on each camshaft should comprise - (1) Power open exhaust on each timing ½ tooth early, normal and ½ tooth late, going further if necessary. (2) Repeat (1), but with exhaust system. (Any system that will give approx. Buick back press 16" Hg at high speeds. (3) Check idling under conditions (1) and(2) in following manner - (Use new Champion spark plugs, remove when running power curves and keep for idling only) Set idling speed at 250 r.p.m. brake disconnected. Find the tappet clearance which permits even running. | ||
