Dear Robotham,

I am sorry to be so long in acknow-ledging your note of April 23rd but I never have a moment for anything in this bloody life. I am one of the 5 engaged on the anti night bomber & we are going all out. Results are better but the device we believe to be by far the most promising has not been tried in action yet.

I am so sorry about the BMW but our letters kept crossing & your people were so long in fetching it & then didn't ring up to know if it was still available, that the contretemps happened. I was away up North at the time.

However, as R.{Sir Henry Royce} used to say, out of evil
