We understand that with the increased inertia flywheel and clutch to N.Sch.4571, it is not possible to remove the clutch when the retaining circlips are used on the bolts. The remedy suggested by the Experimental Department is that the circlips be deleted. The bolts are then removable one at a time through the aperture for the starter motor. They are likewise inserted and held in place for the screwing on of the nut one by one. The grooves in the bolts should of course also be deleted. This alteration should be instructed immediately for production and experimental cars. The Experimental Department also suggest that instead of 18 - .250 bolts, 12 - .312 bolts should be used to secure a saving in time and cost, and also to run less risk from over-tightening. We show this modification on N.Sch.4704 herewith, and think that it should be instructed for experiment at the first convenient opportunity. We also shew holes for set screws to prise off the clutch from the flywheel and for set screws to be used when assembling to secure the parts together before the bolts are inserted. N.Sch.4704 herewith. HDY.{William Hardy} | ||
