Cont'd.{John DeLooze - Company Secretary} Minute No. 3. -5- only be produced in small lots not exceeding 50 at a time and his permission must be obtained before each 50 is put in hand. (c) Using a smaller gear box to get weight and cost down. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} asked for consideration to be given to the possibility of providing a smaller gear box in order to reduce weight. He said the Peregrine gear box might be used. It was agreed that a smaller lighter box is possible and it was arranged that when Hdy.{William Hardy} has completed the designs of the J.III. gear box it shall be scaled down for use on Bentley. 4. Item 4 on Agenda. P.II. The size and weight of P.II. chassis was discussed and Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}'s latest P.II. trials car was inspected. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} said it was necessary to get the weight down on the big car to increase the performance. The possibility of fitting the 8-litre engine in the J.III. chassis was considered. Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} read Hsl/MJ.25.4.33. on this subject and then read Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}'s reply - Ref: Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}8/E26.4.33. It was agreed that it is desirable to try out the 8-litre engine in the J.III. type of chassis which should be modified as found necessary. It is considered that the chassis is of sufficient strength to carry the 8-litre engine. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} will provide a general arrangement drawing to enable this work to be carried out. In the first instance standard J.III. frame sides will be used to try out the combination. It was agreed that one chassis be built. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} said that this will incidentally provide a very good test for the J.III. chassis itself. Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} is to be asked to make proposals for a suitable body and Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} will get in touch with him. By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} was requested to order up as early as possible 3 pairs of rear axle gears to be used on this 8-litre in J.III. chassis. | ||
