2. To Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} from E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} Contd. Copy to CJ. " " Bn.{W.O. Bentley / Mr Barrington} " " Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} " " By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} " " EFC. " " EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} E1/G28.5.20. The bore of the standard can be lightened out towards the end as shewn. The diameter of the parallel portion of the standard should be made 2" instead of 2 1/4". The top web of the cantilever should be made parallel in the plan view about 1.600" wide. The lightening holes in the web of the cantilever should be arranged with two large holes close to the bosses on two smaller intermediate holes as in the sketch above. The flanged portion of the standard bolted to the frame should be .25 instead of .300" thick. This same flange should hav e a straight side on its rearward edge instead of the shape shewn. Mr. Royce thinks that the reduction in section half way along the edge due to this alteration will be of no consequence. The tuning fork shape in the cantilever at the point where the bore for the standard is close to the engine foot should be avoided, and the stamping made as shewn in sketch - Some metal should be left near the face for the steering box to form a small bore for locating the clamping bolt for the steering box - see sketch below. The collar half way along the stem of this piece should be made smaller in diameter. Mr. Royce doesnot wish a slot to be made used in the washer for the steering box.securing bolt, but thinks that Contd. | ||
