for No.2 assembly at 3500 r.p.m. is equivalent to .58" at the clutch pedal. The Long Co. appear to put down this excessive movement to slack in the lever bearings and say that it can be cured by the Cadillac design.

The Long Company have measured the load produced by the centrifugal force. The loads on our calculated curve are about 20% less than their measured loads.

The Long Company comment on the fact that we only get .017" deflection of the cushioning under the disc lining. They aim at a deflection of .05" to get good clutch control.

Borg & Beck mentioned that we had ordered three 7¼" clutches and that the only information we had given was the max. torque of 64 lb.ft. They said that they required to know the application in order to know which type of clutch to advise. None of the three data forms which they sent had been returned to them. They said they always respected confidences. For most applications they would recommend a normal clutch disc but for a passenger car, they would recommend a "Borglite" disc which is lighter and makes life easier for the gearbox synchromesh apparatus. This information has been passed on to Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/HH. who said he would deal with it.

Borg & Beck are making a 5¼" clutch for a 6 H.P. car which is to be made after the war.

We are to write to Borg & Beck within a few days to say whether we want samples of the Cadillac type clutch and if there are any more queries which we would like put to the Long Company.
