BENTLEY - CONNECTING ROD BEARINGS.

We have examined the bearings returned under memo' Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/GWH.{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux}34/G.26.4.38, and agree that the chamfer present at one side of the shell is too large to clean out after final boring. This is due to a machining error, but in actual practice the amount of effective bearing width lost by this chamfer has been proved to vary between .010 and .030, and the chamfer is therefore not so excessive as would appear at first sight.

However, in order to avoid a recurrence of this trouble, special precautions are now being taken to ensure that future bearings are correctly produced.
