Derby.

Dear Robotham,

I wish to acknowledge receipt of the three drawings, Q.1692, QS.82 and QS.83, giving particulars of your 40 m/m cannon. We are roughing out an installation to suit the "Beaufighter" and as soon as this is complete I will send you a copy. We should then like you to try the effect of firing with the end of the barrel enclosed in a blast tube, as we do with the Hispano cannon, and as we shall find necessary on this installation. I thought that if we could make you a blast tube it might be convenient for you to do a test of this nature whilst you were firing the gun on your butts for other purposes.

As we can get no official line on the future use of these large cannons, we would propose to fit one "Beaufighter" with them and submit it to the Fighter Command for test to enable them to settle their future policy.

Yours sincerely,

L G Frise
