BRAKES - PEREGRINE.

3 Per.II has been tried with the following brake units:-

550 Direct + 400 S front + 220 S rear.

This proved to have too much direct braking it being always possible to push the pedal to the floorboards. The braking was altered to :-

377 Direct + 400 S front + 220 S rear.

This proved to be very good.

With 40º servo cams, giving an equivalent braking of 377 + 477 S front + 260 S rear the brakes were even better, the tendency to lock the rear wheels being greatly reduced.

For a wear of 1 unit all round of the brake linings the servo moves 18.8 units and the pedal 31 units. The total possible movements of servo and pedal are 2.0" and 4.3". The pedal will reach the boards before the servo hits the stop.

The total travel of 4.3" of the pedal is equivalent to a wear of 4.3/62 = .070 at the shoe centre.

The new larger servo has a torque multiplication 15% greater and a 10% greater stroke.

As instructed to N.Sch. except that while the same levers the braking axle be the braking will be:-

377 Direct + 360 S front + 193 S rear.

Which with a 15% better servo is equivalent to :-

377 Direct + 420 S front + 230 S rear.

40º servo cams will be an improvement.
