X.1627 - PRODUCTION TESTS OF ELECTRICAL APPARATUS Handwritten: X975 With reference to your enquiry regarding the advisability of obtaining a combined megohmmeter and Wheatstone Bridge Set, our opinion in the matter is as follows :- We consider it would be quite advisable to obtain a megohmmeter with a range of 0 to 1te megohms and with the generator running up to 500 volts. A variable pressure set will be all that is required; a constant pressureset being unnecessary. We do not consider that the production testing Dept. require a Wheatstone Bridge attachment, in fact we do not consider that they require a resistance measuring apparatus of the Wheatstone Bridge Type at all. All the resistance measurements that have to be made are done quite sufficiently accurately for production purposes by means of volts and amps. Only in the case of the ignition coils have we recommended resistance measurements and these only indirefly by this means, stating that the volts and amperes under certain circumstances shall be within certain limits. Provided the number of turns of the correct gauge of wire are put on a piece of apparatus, the correct resistance within reasonable limits must be there. The only possibility that can occur is that some of the turns Contd. | ||
