FLYWHEEL & CLUTCH ARRAGT. EX.18198 10" BORG & BECK WOVEN LINING.

The Clutch engagement has been smooth, with no sign of slipping. Stops in normal time when hot. The Clutch has been examined and was found in a very good condition.

GEARBOX. N° Y 380

No effort has been required to change gears, Synchromesh working perfectly. The Gears are a good standard for silence, loss of oil 1/4 pint. There is a constant weep from the bearing of the swinging arm, which covers the whole of the Servo linkage. A perfect seal joint as was fitted to the previous Car would cure it. The bijur supply of oil to the dashpot could be reduced. It is being too generously supplied and is not needed.

Oil has continually worked up the Speedometer drive into the Speedometer. We turned the drive bush round to bring the drain hole to the bottom but this has not cured it.

PROPELLER SHAFT LOP GB.702.

The universal joints were checked at the beginning of the mileage and were found to be approximately two thirds full of grease. They were refilled and have not lost any further grease during the mileage. No appreciable wear of the joints can be detected.
We have not felt any propeller shaft vibration.

BRAKES. LOP GB.1236 - GB.854.

The Brakes are up to standard Bentley. In comparison with Phantom III, more pressure is needed on the foot pedal. The Car has been washed in the usual way after the day's mileage and no sign of brake shudders or loss of braking have occurred. Wear of lining has been normal. The adjustment up to the present mileage has been :-
Rear O.S. 8.1/2 N.S. 7.1/2 half turns.
Front O.S. 7.1/2 N.S. 7.1/2 half turns.

We have not examined the brakes at this mileage.
The brake rope pins became rusted up.

REAR AXLE. LOP GB.619.

The Axle is a good standard for quietness, loss of oil is taking place from the pinion bearing. The amount at this mileage being 1/4 pint. We have not detected any leak down the Axle tubes.

FRONT AXLE PIVOTS. LOP GB.1235.

The Axle has not given any trouble. Pivots do not show any wear to have taken place; lubrication satisfactory.
