AIR SILENCER. LOP EB. 683.

The Air silencer is not good at high speeds. There is a noticeable roar. We understand that the tests for silence was not completed when the Car left. The arrangement of holding the Silencer on to the Engine has not been satisfactory on the Bentleys & 25 HP. tested out here. The brackets held by aluminum rivets either stretch or break off in the Silencer casing. Internal stiffening plates have been tried without success. The rivets are at fault, and we are of the opinion that small bolts with a steel backing plate would overcome the trouble experienced. We are trying this scheme out. A considerable quantity of oil is being drawn into the Air Silencer via the engine breather from the rocker cover.

FAN. LOP EB.189.

With the higher speeds of this Car, the boom from the fan became an objectionable feature. There has not been any mechanical failure.

PETROL SUPPLY.

The new type "Powerflex" pipe from pump to Carburetters, has not been satisfactory. A bad leak developed close to the union joint where attached to the dashboard connection.

PETROL PUMPS. S.U.

We have not had any failure of supply. A slight leak developed from one unit, owing to the nuts not being firmly tightened up. It would appear that after a short time in service, the diaphragms settle down and a further tightening up of the nuts is required. This has been our experience. A feature which must be attended to, is the mounting of the pump. With the heat insulation scheme on the dashboard, it is not possible to remove the pump should the occassion arise.

REAR ENGINE BEARING.

There has been the usual leak of oil from this bearing into the Clutch pit, which leaves a pool of oil on the floor when the Car stands.

ENGINE SIDE TRAYS & FRONT GUARD. FB.1374.

This is a very poor job. They are flimsy and have broken up. The method of fastening them up is unsatisfactory and inaccessible, one of the worst features on the Car.

RADIATOR.

There has not been any abnormal loss of water. The Radiator Shutters rattle and can be heard in the driving seat.
