4 Contd. They expressed the opinion that it was not possible, and that whilst it might be possible, it certainly would not pay. It would take too long to dismantle the existing silencers in a way that would prevent any damage, and re-build them with the new parts, so that the cost would be more than if a new silencer were built.

If the Administration consider that the Experimental Dept's silencer should be fitted, we feel this is a matter for them to settle with R, as no-one at the Works would be justified in using a scheme which the Company's Chief Engineer has turned down.
